Drifting snow and a sunset

The snowstorm didn't dump as much on us as predicted, but it was still a lot of snow and wind.  It stopped snowing this afternoon, but the wind was strong, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour (65 kilometers per hour).  The sun peaked through the clouds, revealing the blowing snow:

Later, as the sun was about to set it shone over the drifting snow in the field behind the house:

Then the sun approached and dropped below the horizon, illuminating the clouds in various shades of yellow, orange, red, and purple as the light got fainter:

I love these pictures !
One of the best structuring in a picture that catches my eyes are bare tree limbs stretching across the horizon as the sun is going through its stages either rising or setting.
You have captured it wonderfully with blue sky and clouds eventually sinking ! . I'm glad you didn't get completely snowed in .. they tend to go a bit over board with the amount of snow predicted .. I guess the weather people want to cover their .. hum ? behinds ? LOL
I was reading your post above and it is amazing to read some one's accounting through their eyes, of a virgin territory, to Europeans ..
My fathers people came from Scotland to Nova Scotia in the mid 1600's and settled their for life .. but Nova Scotia did remind them a lot of Scotland hence the name of the province ? LOL
Great post !

Thank you both for the compliments!

CGJoy, the bare tree limbs silhouetted against the background of sunset or sunrise make for good pictures, I think. On the other hand, it would be difficult to take a picture of sunrise or sunset around here that did not include tree limbs, because wherever there are no buildings here, there are usually at least a few trees!

I'm glad you liked my historical post - I will be following that one up soon. I need to put a few more history posts in - gotta live up to the blog's name, after all.
